Check That Privacy Policy!

Every reputable internet bingo website has a clearly written privacy policy. These policies usually include an agreement that the website will not reveal or sell personal information about internet bingo and poker players. A recent report from Australia revealed that several internet gaming giants have sold and traded player information like a commodity. Industry experts say that this breach of privacy could have far reaching implications and may violate several regulations.

The selling of customer information by marketers is nothing new. In the past some internet bingo players that did not read privacy policies thoroughly found their email inboxes inundated with unwanted advertising material better known as spam. The Australian based gaming website AustralianGambling.com.au has obtained samples of player details that are being sold to third parties. During an MSN conversation AustralianGambling.com.au was given full details about how the information is being sold.

The report has revealed that a gentleman named Ryan Clegg routinely buys information from casino employees, online gaming sites, bookmakers, poker sites and sportsbooks. Mr. Clegg did not say whether the information was traded with the knowledge of the internet gaming sites the information came from. Clegg admits to selling the personal data for quite some time. The most horrifying part of all this is that the information being sold to third parties includes, full names, addresses, email addresses, date of birth and financial information including deposits, wins and losses. The availability of this sensitive information could leave internet bingo players open to identity theft.

Clegg also indicated that credit card information was being sold and told AustralianGambling.com that for $8,000 the reporter could buy the personal information of 40,000 people. Internet bingo players should always read the privacy policy of any website they are playing at. Most internet bingo websites are perfectly legitimate and are operated in an ethical manner. For European internet bingo players the ‘white list’ maintained by the EU is an excellent place to check references and licensing. Don’t let a few shady characters prevent you from playing your favorite game—internet bingo!

Most UK internet bingo websites are closely regulated by the government and players are guaranteed safety and privacy. In addition to better security UK bingo sites are offering bigger and better promotions and bingo bonuses. Sites are adding state of the art security software and providing free bingo bonuses to players. Measures are now in place to prevent a repeat of the selling of personal data by websites.
