Obama’s Stepmon Raises Big Bucks For Charity

Earlier in the Month it was revealed that newly elected President Obama’s stepmother Kezia Obama was partnering with Gala Bingo and sponsoring a charity internet bingo game to benefit healthcare charity Sue Ryder Care in the UK where she is a resident. On their website the UK based charity says they provide, “compassionate care and support for people living with serious illnesses and conditions, as well as their families and loved ones.”

Mrs. Obama is a bingo fanatic who lives in Bracknell, Berkshire and plays bingo several times a week. She is also fond of internet bingo. The internet bingo game went live on the net just as Mrs. Obama made preparations to join her stepson at his inauguration in Washington D.C. Mrs. Obama called the numbers herself during the charity internet bingo games adding to the interest generated by her sponsorship. For every £1 ($1.43 USD) wagered during the internet bingo game 10p was donated to the Sue Ryder charity.

The Sue Ryder charity provides services over and above those provided by the National Health Care services. Paul Woodward, Chief Executive at Sue Ryder Care had this to say about the scope of the care the charity provides, “Last year Sue Ryder Care delivered 4 million hours of care to people who need it most, but we know the need for specialist palliative and neurological care is much greater.  With the help of money raised through our partnership with the Gala Coral Group, Sue Ryder Care’s vision is to provide over 10 million hours of care by 2018.”

The results of the charity internet bingo game are in and it has been reported that Mrs. Obama’s internet bingo game raised a total of £20,000 (28,622 USD at current exchange rates) for the charity. Approximately 60,000 internet bingo players participated in the game. Mrs. Obama is to be commended for her efforts for this very worthy charity.
